Why are frequent breaks from sitting important?

Did you know every hour of TV viewed after the age of 25 reduces life expectancy 21.8 minutes? The average person watches 5 hours of TV per day. Over an average lifespan  (78 years) we lose almost 6 years of our life!

The simple solution is to Get Up and Get Moving every hour we sit. Here is a simple exercise that can give you a one minute break from sitting.

Triceps Press

Hold a full water bottle or book with both hands. Lift the object up to shoulder level, and then continue lifting all the way up over your head. When the arm is next to the ear, bend the elbow, taking the water bottle behind you. Straighten the arms and move them forward, back over your head and lower down. Do 20 repetitions.

Repeat three times.

This and other one-minute breaks can be found in Chapter 10 of my book Health at Your Desk.
